maybe one of you came across this before.

yesterday one of my turntables (guessed right: numark tt200) went mad.

hitting the 'play' button led to unpredictable behaviour. either the platter was spinning backwards or not moving at all. if -in that case- i pushed the platter into the correct direction it startet spinning as usual.

when stopping the platter it didn't stop instantly but kept on spinning, slowly decreasing the speed (break mechanism fail).

looks like a broken driver or a failing connection to one of the engine's wires to me (didn't take it apart yet just a rough guess). plz let me know if you faced this before

have you removed the platter and put it back in and tried again?

hope it's nothing serious! my tt200s have been rock solid but my friend's tt500s have had issues. no one really talks about these decks anywhere i come across, like a couple year later review. i'm always curious how they've held up for other people.

took off the platter and put it back...nothing (of course).

put the hole turntable apart and did some measuring at the solenoids driving the platter (took apart the whole drive) everything fine so far. did some measuring within the circuit and everything looks fine as well (no broken solderpoints, no blown capacitors, etc). tomorrow i will do some serious investigation into the function of the main driver ic. since evrything is fine i think it's that (also i read about someone having had the same problem once before.)

gonna let you know what comes out

those babies are too old to care about warranty

unfortunately there is a chance that the repair might become rather cheap.
no way to trick myself into spending the money for a shiny new set of technics :D

Who said you had to go new? Tech 1200 MK II's are going for $200-$300 each all over the place. I picked one up for $200 online a while back and it's in GREAT shape and works flawlessly. I picked up one BRAND NEW that has the platter signed by Norman Cook for under $400. I converted it from 220V to 110V and it works GREAT.

thx, but...

...IF i buy myself a set of technics THEN it will be shiny 'n new (waiting for this for so long... got the money but there has to be a reason )

(with a little (bad...) luck the cost for the repair of my numark tt will be around 12euros)

:D

that is exactly how mine acted when the motor died. It happened three months after I bought it, and it was covered under warranty. That was over a year ago and it's been fine ever since. Just buy a replacement motor and swap it out.

so my 200s are still working properly, but my friend with the 500s has had yet more issues. and a couple of weeks back her decks started doing the funky chicken thing described in this thread.

andy, i'm wondering if you happen to know if the 500s have the same chip to replace. we figure it's worth a try as these decks are worth nothing as is, and dagnabbit my poor partner has had her tables down for almost a year total since she bought em. just curious if you happen to know before we open it up, even though we'll be doing that anyway and i'll post back

how the brand new, fancier, more expensive model has lasted less time than the beat to crap, used, cheaper model i couldn't say...

sorry, i know this is an old post, but im woundering how you fixed as my two tt200 gone mad as thie motor doesnt work as it should. I read somewhere that is not ok to turn on the tt and press plate without the platter, because the motor can fry. Could not see the picture because is down, 3 years later, , but if can explain how you did, or upload your explanation would be great.

I'd recommend contacting Dr Andy directly through his web site. He's INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and I'm always impressed with his creativity and the various projects he comes up with.
